Herpes Cold Sore Treatments

Finding someone to date or fall in love with isn't an easy thing to do when one suffers from Herpes.

The sufferer is always worried about or feels guilty hiding the fact that they have Herpes. It makes a great deal of sense to use a dating site that is geared toward people who suffer from Herpes and other STD's.

First, let's understand exactly what herpes is. Cold sores appear as a group of small fluid filled blisters on an individual's face most commonly on or around one's lips. They are sometimes referred to as fever blisters and are caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). This virus enters the body through contact with the mucous membranes on the inside of the mouth or a break in the skin.

Once an individual is infected with HSV, this virus stays in their body throughout their lifetime. Some individuals have only one visible breakout of this disease but the great majority of people affected with this virus have multiple recurrences.

There are warning signs of cold sore outbreaks. Prior to the appearance of the cold sore - the area will begin to have sensations of tingling, pain and or itching. The area where the cold sore will eventually appear will become slightly raised and inflamed. These warning signs are called the prodome and are typically noticed a day or two prior to the appearance of the cold sore itself.

The appearance of a cold sore will happen 2 to 7 days after an individual is initially infected. The cold sore usually remains on the individual's body from 7 to 12 days. The blisters of cold sores usually weep fluid and then develop a crust or scab prior to their disappearance. Some outbreaks may clear in a shorter period of time and some may take longer depending on a number of individual factors.

Outbreaks of cold sores are unsightly and usually cause embarrassment as well as physical discomfort. Individuals typically experience pain, tingling and itching in the area of the sores. Cold sore outbreaks are frequently associated with illness including flu like symptoms, fever, coughs, colds, general malaise and or swollen glands.

Outbreaks can occur at any time after an individual is initially infected with the virus. The virus stays dormant in the individual's central nervous system for the majority. During the time in which HSV sleeps in the CNS, an individual may experience days, weeks, months or even years without symptoms reappearing on the surface of the skin.

Because the virus travels down nerve pathways towards the skin surface, pain, tingling and itching are warning signs of an impending outbreak.

Treatment of cold sores is aimed at symptom relief, speeding healing time and prevention. As of 2010, there are no cures for herpes.

There are a number of topical preparations both prescription and over the counter topicals which are available and help relieve the symptoms.

Some people use warm or cold compresses, acetaminophen and or Ibuprofen for pain relief. Keeping the area clean and using antibacterial ointment may be helpful in preventing secondary infection developing in the area. Hand washing after coming in contact with infected areas is essential in halting the spread of the disease to other area or other people.

However, it is possible to take a number of steps to decrease the amount, frequency and severity of outbreaks. Individuals can learn the triggers for their outbreaks and try to prevent these things from happening.

My Friend Has Herpes - She Dated Again and Found Real Love

A girlfriend of mine was single for a very long time. She seemed to run away from any man who was interested in her. Originally I thought "That's Weird!", now I look back on those days with a little bit of sadness.

We were watching a DVD at my house one Saturday evening, having a few glasses of wine when she told me about her heartbreaking secret. She's contracted herpes from an old lover. I still weep when I think of her telling me and the defensive distrust in her eyes. Despite 15 years friendship it was as if she expected me to turn my back on her, rather than give her a hug and a shoulder to cry on.

We talked about some of her ex boyfriends. There was one in particular who sticks in my mind. They were dating for months, it all looked wonderful from the outside. Everything was going so well yet when she told him, he just split. He didn't even break up with her, he just never answered her calls or saw her again. It was one of the most heart breaking stories I'd ever heard.

The saddest thing about this story was that she had to shoulder the burden of this extreme rejection herself. Still reasonably new to dealing with the disease, she had not told anyone she was infected. As such, when this jerk treated her so poorly rather than supporting her, she had no-one to confide in at all. It made me weep to hear it.

I am so glad we talked openly that night. I think I really helped my friend. As we chatted and I shared her burden, I could almost see the weight lift from her shoulders. It also opened a gate for her I think as we talked about these things many times in the future. It was as if having broken the ice on the topic, she allowed herself to share her burden moving forward.

One thing she really found useful was a dating site specifically designed to cater for people with STDs. There were many reasons why she found this useful.

One of the things about this dating site she really enjoyed, was the understanding everyone had for what she was going through. The people she met and dated from this site all shared her experiences so they knew what she was going through. Through this understanding they provided real support.

The other thing which is pretty unique about STD dating sites is the way the websites themselves support the community they foster. Sure, they have forums and chat like every other dating site, but they also have some really useful tools. Like a daily fact sheet or news column about STDs to help the members understand what's going on. The one she joined even had live counsellors at the site, to help her through the issues specifically relating to her carrying the disease.

It was really great seeing the positive effect this site had on my friend. She doesn't visit it anymore though, she doesn't need to with her husband and two beautiful children doting on her.

How To Re-Enter The Dating Scene After You Had Genital Herpes

I found out I had genital herpes in January. My boyfriend got a blood test and he tested negative. Recently, we broke up . I'm sure I'm not ready to start dating again yet, but when I am I'm not sure how to go about it. I know I have to tell my partners and I will continue to be careful. Can I date those who don't have herpes? Will they be willing to date me?

Many people with herpes have similar experience at the beginning. The following information shows you how you can unlock your own natural confidence and strength so you feel really comfortable giving 'The Talk'. Now that you know you have genital herpes, you're out of the dating game, right? Absolutely not. There's no reason to stop looking for love and fun.

Genital herpes doesn't detract from your many desirable qualities, which have drawn people to you in the past and will continue to make you a great catch.

Broaching the Topic of Genital Herpes

The first date after your diagnosis may seem a little strange, however. If you hope to be sexually intimate with your date at some point, you may feel like you're keeping a nasty secret. If you are one to be candid with people, you'll want to blurt it out. Don't. There are some things you should reveal about yourself right away -- for example, that you're married, or that you're just in town for the week -- but some things are better left for the appropriate moment.

It's up to you to decide the right time to tell your date that you have genital herpes. Follow two rules: First, don't wait until after having sex. Second, don't wait until you're just about to have sex -- in which case the attraction may be too strong for either of you to think rationally and act responsibly.

If in the past you tended to start a new relationship with sex, you now might want to change your approach. It might be better to break the news about your herpes to someone who has already grown attached to you. Kissing, cuddling, and fondling are safe, so you don't have to tell before you do that. But use your best judgment as to how physically intimate you want to get before telling. One thing could lead to another, and you might find yourself in an awkward situation.

Dealing With Rejection Anyone who dates should be prepared for rejection. The person you're seeing may beat a hasty retreat when he or she finds out about your genital herpes. If you get the "I just want to be friends" talk after telling your sweetheart you have herpes, consider this: He or she may have already been looking for a way out, and herpes was as good an excuse as any. What's more, anyone who disdains you or humiliates you for having herpes was never worth your while.

Keep dating, and you will find someone who wants to be with you regardless of your herpes status. There are certainly some who wouldn't mind keeping the intimacy level just short of doing things that could transmit the virus. And of those people, it's likely that at least one will come around, and say, "Hey, I understand there's a risk, but I'm crazy about you, so I'm willing to take it."

Depending on your dating style, you might date people with herpes, if you want to avoid having to discuss it. Herpes doesn't define you, but judgmental people will make judgmental decisions. On the herpes dating sites, you do not worry about being rejected or discriminated, but often find understanding and comforting. Dating With STDs, Herpes, HIV, or HPV - Things You Need to Know

I believe that if you have an STD you should only date someone with an STD. Having a sexually transmitted disease is a private thing and is not something that you want to broadcast to the world. Although I'm not ashamed of having it, I did find it difficult at first when I found out that I had genital herpes.

By dating someone with a sexually transmitted disease you both share the same secret. I believe for privacy reasons that this is the best way to go. If you decide to try to date someone that doesn't have a sexually transmitted disease then you should make sure that you are very good friends first before you tell them. Even then they may reject you at which point you never know whom they might tell.

If it is someone at work that you are trying to date and you told them about your STD you know what the chances are that the whole office will eventually find out the minute you get on the bad side of that person or have a disagreement. Don't ever let this happen to you! Keep your job and be happy there.

This has never happened to me but I know several people who have lost their jobs over it. Not because they were fired for having an STD but because they were too ashamed to work around so many people that knew about their secret and would make constant digging comments about it.

With one in four adults having genital herpes, there was probably a very likely chance that many of the people who were in on that office joke actually had herpes but were not about to tell that that they did, so they went along with the joke. How much pain did they feel inside having to go along with such a joke knowing full well that it was indirectly aimed at them.

I have been fortunate enough to find a herpes STD dating website where not only people with herpes find dates but people with human papilloma virus, HIV, and other STD related diseases find dates too. One of the best things about STD dating websites is that they are very private and they don't allow any of the search engines to search their websites to collect photographs and put your dating profile online for the world to see.

Because of the privacy that STD web dating websites offer we no longer have to worry about the embarrassment of telling someone that we have an STD just to find that they reject you for that very reason and possibly ruin your life by telling everyone they know about it.

I gave up all of my other dating accounts and only date on a herpes dating website. I find that the stress of having to tell someone completely vanishes when both people already know about the other person. I won't go back to regular dating ever again.

Dating For People With Herpes

First of all I want to let you know that I have both forms of herpes. I understand the whole emotional roller coaster and the feeling you got when you first found out you had it. Dating for people with herpes is fairly easy, at least for me it is anyway and I want to show you why.

Here is the way I see it.

First of all, you have been through the emotional issues of being diagnosed with herpes. Your brain has been through every scenario about how to approach your date and tell them you have herpes, and how they might react after you tell them.

This is to much stress to deal with and the last think you want to do is increase your stress level because it could very well trigger more frequent herpes outbreaks. So lets take the stress away from having to tell your date you have herpes. Here is how you do it.

First off I want you to know that you are not alone and that 20% off all American adults have some type of STD with herpes being number one STD. Now look at that number, 20% have some type of STD. The number of people being infected is expected to grow every day and there is no decrease in sight in the STD rate now or in the near future.

Herpes is not going to kill anyone if they get infected like some STD's so that alone should emotionally give you a boost. There are herpes forums on places like Yahoo where you can subscribe to emails about the latest get local Herpes Group get together if there is a group in your area. If there is not a group then start one! You will have common ground with everyone at the get together and your stress level should be low. A perfect opportunity to relax, be yourself, and make some friends. Maybe even meet someone special, after all that is what it is all about.

If you see it like I do then dating for people with herpes is not that big of a deal. You know what I have found out? I have belonged to a herpes dating websites for a while and I find the people on the Herpes dating websites are more likely to return your emails, go on a date with you and are just more genuine than normal dating websites.

It's tough enough dealing with the emotional issues of have herpes, that dating for people with herpes should be stress free. Don't you agree?

http://HerpesAndYouDating.com has some pretty good forums for people with herpes. I now have control of my condition and a great girlfriend. I write articles in my spare about herpes.

Design and evaluation of a Multi-Epitope Assembly Peptide (MEAP) against Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 infection in BALB/c mice

MedWorm: Genital Herpes
Inhibition of HIV transmission in human cervicovaginal explants and humanized mice using CD4 aptamer-siRNA chimeras
May 16, 2011 at 1:24 PM
The continued spread of the HIV epidemic underscores the need to interrupt transmission. One attractive strategy is a topical vaginal microbicide. Sexual transmission of herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) in mice can be inhibited by intravaginal siRNA application. To overcome the challenges of knocking down gene expression in immune cells susceptible to HIV infection, we used chimeric RNAs composed of an aptamer fused to an siRNA for targeted gene knockdown in cells bearing an aptamer-binding receptor. Here, we showed that CD4 aptamer-siRNA chimeras (CD4-AsiCs) specifically suppress gene expression in CD4+ T cells and macrophages in vitro, in polarized cervicovaginal tissue explants, and in the female genital tract of humanized mice. CD4-AsiCs do not activate lymphocytes or stimulate inna...
