My callous lover gave me herpes so no one else would want me

Jailed: David Golding, 28, from Daventry, Northants, admitted grievous bodily harm Jailed: David Golding, 28, from Daventry, Northants, admitted grievous bodily harm

The man jailed for knowingly infecting his girlfriend with herpes did so to make sure that no one else would want her, his victim said yesterday.

Cara Scott accused former lover David Golding of leaving her with a 'life sentence' and described the knowledge that he had given her the disease as 'soul-destroying'.

The 24-year-old, from Daventry, Northamptonshire, said she hoped Golding's 14-month sentence would serve as a 'warning to others'.

Golding, 28, was jailed by a judge who told the Highways Agency worker he had committed a 'betrayal in a relationship in which you professed love'.

The court heard that Miss Scott became infected with the incurable sexually transmitted infection within a few months of the couple meeting, but that when she confronted Golding, he denied he was responsible.

Yesterday the former hairdresser, now going by the surname Lee, described her suffering in the two years since she caught the disease.

She added: 'I get angry and depressed when the herpes flares up. It's a disgusting reminder of him.

'But seeing him brought to justice has helped me move on. Jail is what he deserves.'

Miss Lee told how when she confronted Golding, he denied giving her herpes and suggested she may have been infected years earlier, as the virus can lie dormant for long periods.

'I didn't even want to look at him. But I couldn't leave – I was convinced I would never find anybody else'

She said Golding 'never seemed worried about catching it' from her and assured her that he didn't need testing 'as he wasn't showing any of the signs'.

The couple went ahead with plans to move in together because Miss Lee felt 'grateful' that Golding still wanted to be with her.

But her suspicions about where she had contracted the virus remained. Golding revealed the truth last year and admitted transmitting the infection to her.

Miss Lee said: 'I felt sick and was crying so much I couldn't breathe.

'He said he knew if I had it no one else would want me. I screamed, "How could you do that?"

'I didn't even want to look at him. But I couldn't leave – I was convinced I would never find anybody else.'

She told Closer magazine that Golding, from Braunston, near Daventry, was apologetic and promised he would look after her.

But the couple stopped sleeping together, and when they eventually split up, Miss Lee went to the police.

She has since had a baby with her new partner, Jonathan Clark, 29.

He said: 'When Cara told  me about the STI I wasn't put off – I loved her and wanted  to be with her.

We have to be careful, but it's something we deal with.'

Golding admitted grievous bodily harm and was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court last week.

The case – believed to be the first time a defendant has been convicted and jailed for passing on herpes – has been condemned by sexual health charities, which said the 'trivial' condition was being wrongly stigmatised.

Around 10 per cent of the population have genital herpes.

The condition causes painful red blisters and itching in the genital area and flu-like symptoms including fever, headache and tiredness.

It is caused by the same two types of the herpes simplex virus which are responsible for cold sores on the face and nose.

A sufficient quantity of the virus is needed on the skin to transmit it, and enough is usually only present during a flare-up.

But Miss Lee said she believes she was infected when her partner had no visible symptoms.

Nigel Scott, spokesman for the Herpes Viruses Association, compared the case to prosecuting children for 'giving their friends chicken pox'.

He called for a review of the Crown Prosecution Service's guidelines on 'intentional or reckless sexual transmission of infection' policy, which were consulted before the decision to prosecute was taken.

The guidelines state that grievous bodily harm can be caused when transmission of a sexual infection will have 'serious, perhaps life-threatening, consequences for the infected person's health'.

But Mr Scott argued that herpes is not serious or life-threatening.

Suing for Herpes Adds Possible $350,000 Price Tag to Hook-up

Suing someone for inflicting bodily injury is covered under personal injury litigation. Suing for herpes may be a tort and personal injury rolled into one. An uptick in STD-related lawsuits shows that herpes and the law have met before.

Married Wisconsin Woman sues Lover for Herpes

The Gazette reports that a married woman (33) has filed a $350,000 suit against her paramour (35). Both people are married to other people. She alleges that during a one-time sexual encounter in the defendant's vehicle, he transmitted genital herpes to her. In her complaint, she claims "personal injury, intentional infection, emotional distress and assault and battery."

The man in question denies the allegations and suggests that she should check with her other partners or husband for the source of the infection. She counters by asserting that he and her husband have been her only sexual contacts over the past eight years. Unless a settlement is reached or the burden of proof remains unmet, there is a good chance that this case will make it to trial.

The Michael Vick/ Ron Mexico Suit

Suing for herpes is not new. Back in 2006, the AP -- as quoted by NBC Sports -- recounted the lawsuit of a woman, who claimed that Michael Vick, then the Atlanta Falcons quarterback, gave her the disease during unprotected intercourse. She further alleged that Vick knew of the disease and sought treatment under the name Ron Mexico. The suit was dropped after both parties "agreed to an undisclosed resolution."

Herpes and the Law Clash in Hollywood

Suing someone for the transmission of the herpes virus also takes place in Hollywood. TMZ recently broke the story of an unnamed "A-list celebrity" who stood accused of knowingly transmitting the disease to a casual hook-up partner. Attorney-guided negotiations netted the injured party a $5 million settlement.

$7 Million Jury Award

While the aforementioned cases resulted in settlements before being tried in court, suing someone for herpes can actually lead to a jury trial. KOLO TV reported in 2009 on a Riverside County (Calif.) jury that awarded a woman (56) $6.75 million for being exposed to -- and infected with -- herpes by her partner (77). The suit alleged that the man knew of his herpes infection "for more than 25 years" and still did not disclose the risk to the woman. Of the $6.75 million, $4 million were compensatory and $2.75 million represented punitive damages.

Man jailed for 14 months after giving girlfriend herpes

A man has been jailed for 14 months after he knowingly gave his former girlfriend genital herpes.

David Golding, 28, was sentenced to the jail term at Northampton Crown Court last week after pleading guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm. Mr Golding, a Highways Authority traffic officer, contracted the sexually transmitted disease from a former partner.

The 24-year-old victim was diagnosed with herpes two months after starting a relationship with Mr Golding in July 2009. Despite this Golding did not admit to having the condition, only eventually disclosing his culpability shortly before the couple split months after.
The victim complained to police about contracting the disease after Golding was arrested on an allegation of assaulting her. Golding had initially claimed to have been given the all-clear from a screening clinic.

Sentencing Golding, Judge Michael Fowler said his initial refusal to admit passing on herpes “placed uncertainty in her life and caused suspicions to be cast onto others”.

Judge Fowler added, “The injury you (Golding) caused her by this infection is at least or more serious than an injury leaving a scar because it carries continued recurrence, extreme discomfort and consequences for relationships she will have in the future”.

The incurable disease forms lesions on the genitals which can cause painful itching and burning.

Senator to fight 'herpes of fruit'

On Tuesday 23 August 2011, 12:01 EST

Independent Senator Nick Xenophon is planning a private member's bill to protect Australian apple growers from what he has called the 'herpes of fruit'.

Biosecurity Australia has just approved importation of apples from New Zealand despite growers protesting about the risk of fire blight entering Australia.

The growers are concerned the bacterial disease in some New Zealand apples could devastate Australian orchards.

Senator Xenophon says his bill will be based on scientific evidence and will be compliant with World Trade Organisation rules.

"Once fire blight comes in, you can never get rid of it," he said.

"Australia will lose its clean, green, disease-free status once and for all.

"Fire blight is like the herpes of fruit, once you get it, you can never get rid of it, it just keeps coming back and back." In South Australia, the Government will impose a quarantine zone around Adelaide Hills apple and pear orchards.

The state's Agriculture Minister, Michael O'Brien, says quarantine laws are similar to those used to combat fruit fly outbreaks.

Mr O'Brien says sale of New Zealand apples also would be banned at supermarkets in the Adelaide Hills.

The minister has pledged to support marketing campaigns to encourage consumers to buy South Australian produce.

The Riverland horticultural industry near the border with Victoria and New South Wales already has protection because the quarantine laws prevent the transportation of fruit into the region.

Man who gave his girlfriend herpes while they were going out is JAILED for 14 months after she went to police when ...

Denial: David Golding said he wasn't responsible for Cara Scott contracting Herpes Denial: David Golding initially said he wasn't responsible for Cara Scott contracting Herpes

A traffic officer who knowingly gave his girlfriend herpes has been jailed for 14 months.

David Golding, 28, kept quiet about the sexually transmitted infection when he began a relationship with 24-year-old Cara Scott two years ago.

Within two months she was diagnosed with the incurable condition and confronted him.

But Golding, who worked for the Highways Agency, denied he was responsible.

He only admitted the truth shortly before the relationship ended early last year.

Golding’s sentence after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm was yesterday attacked as ‘outrageous’ by sexual health charities, which said the ‘trivial’ condition was being wrongly stigmatised.

But Judge Michael Fowler said Golding’s initial refusal to admit passing on herpes ‘placed uncertainty in [Miss Scott’s] life and caused suspicions to be cast on to others’.

He added: ‘Because it was in a relationship, it was particularly mean and an offence which amounted to a betrayal – a betrayal in a relationship in which you professed love.

‘The injury you caused her by this infection is at least or more serious than an injury leaving a scar because it carries continued recurrence, extreme discomfort and consequences for relationships she will have in the future.’

Golding, from Braunston, Northamptonshire, caught the disease from a previous partner.

Trial: The unusual case was heard at Northampton Crown and County Court Trial: The unusual case was heard at Northampton Crown and County Court

Prosecutor Steven Evans told Northampton Crown Court that Miss Scott had become ill in September 2009.

He added: ‘Very quickly, she was diagnosed with genital herpes. It is a lifelong condition and it is incurable. On discovering this, she confronted the defendant but he denied he was responsible.

‘He told her he had been given the all-clear at the clinic when he had gone there for screening.

The couple parted in March 2010, when Miss Scott is said to have reported the infection to police.

Consequences: Judge Michael Fowler sentenced David Golding to 14 months at Northampton Crown Court Consequences: Judge Michael Fowler sentenced David Golding to 14 months at Northampton Crown Court

Golding’s parents, Janet, 64, and Christopher, 59, said they were shocked at the sentence.

Mrs Golding said: ‘This is David’s first offence and we are distraught at what might happen to him in jail. He’s a good son who did not deserve this.’

Her husband said that he found the sentence ‘difficult to understand’.

The virus which causes genital herpes could cause an outbreak or lie dormant for years, during which time it is not infectious. Many people remain unaware they are infected.

Those who do display symptoms usually suffer fever, headache and tiredness and small blisters and itching.

Nigel Scott, spokesman for the Herpes Viruses Association, said Golding’s sentence was ‘outrageous’ and compared the case to prosecuting children for ‘giving their friends chicken pox’.

He added: ‘It is such a trivial infection that most people don’t notice it. It has exactly the same medical implications and consequences as an ordinary facial cold sore.’

Marian Nicholson, director of the HVA, added: ‘Many of those who are diagnosed are reluctant to disclose their status but this is because of the unnecessary stigma, not because it is serious ... emphatically it is not.’

But a spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said the case was considered in line with its ‘intentional or reckless transmission of infection’ policy.

New Trend in PI Law: Suing for Herpes?

No one can be sure who controls the Libyan government's weapons stockpiles, a stew of deadly chemicals, raw nuclear material and some 30,000 shoulder-fired rockets that officials fear could fall into terrorists' hands in the chaos of Moammar Gadhafi's downfall or afterward.

Symptoms Equine Herpes Virus Found in Idaho Horses

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture  is investigating what it's calling "a suspected outbreak" of Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1) within the state.

Horses may have been exposed to the severe neurological form of EHV-1 at the NCHA Western National Championships in Ogden, Utah held April 30-May 8, 2011. Confirmed and suspected cases of the disease have also been reported in Utah, Colorado and several other states.

Two Idaho horses that traveled to the event have died and several others are currently under the care of veterinarians.

State Veterinarian, Dr. Bill Barton is recommending horse owners incorporate strict movement controls or containment methods to prevent the spread of the disease.  "If you participated in this event, or have contact with horses that traveled to this event, you should notify your veterinarian and isolate and monitor these horses for a minimum of 21 days for clinical signs of the disease," he said.

Equine Herpes Virus is highly contagious among horses. Llamas and alpacas can also be affected but the virus poses no health threat to humans.

Symptoms may include a fever, nasal discharge, incoordination, hind-end weakness, lethargy, urine dribbling and diminished tail tone.  The virus is easily spread by airborne transmission, horse-to-horse contact and by contact with nasal secretions on equipment, tack, feed and other surfaces.

People can spread the virus to horses by means of contaminated hands, clothing, shoes and vehicles.  Currently there is no equine vaccine for protection against the neurological strain of the virus.

"I encourage owners to frequently monitor their horses and contact their veterinarian immediately should any symptoms of illness be detected," said Dr. Barton.

EHV-1 is also a Notifiable Disease to the State Veterinarian in Idaho.   Anyone suspecting or confirming a case of EHV-1 should call (208) 332-8540 or (208) 332-8570 to report cases.

Outrage After Man Jailed for Giving Partner Herpes

Published August 16, 2011

| NewsCore

NORTHAMPTON, England –  Sexual health experts Tuesday lashed out at a decision to jail a U.K. man for giving his partner genital herpes.

David Golding was given a 14-month prison sentence last week for not informing his girlfriend that he had the sexually transmitted infection, the Northampton Chronicle and Echo reported.

The 28-year-old, from Braunston, central England, had earlier pleaded guilty at Northampton Crown Court to inflicting grievous bodily harm.

The court heard Golding had denied having the infection when his then girlfriend, 24-year-old Cara Scott, was diagnosed with it soon after their relationship began in 2009. He only admitted it to her shortly before they broke up in 2010. Scott then went to the police.

According to the Daily Mail, Judge Michael Fowler said at sentencing, "'Because it was in a relationship, it was particularly mean and an offense which amounted to a betrayal -- a betrayal in a relationship in which you [Golding] professed love.

"The injury you caused her by this infection is at least or more serious than an injury leaving a scar because it carries continued recurrence, extreme discomfort and consequences for relationships she will have in the future."

However, Nigel Scott, of the Herpes Viruses Association, said, "This is outrageous. Will children also now be prosecuted for giving their friends chicken pox? For passing on a cold sore?"

Sexual health consultant Dr. Colm O'Mahony said, "Being sent to prison for passing on herpes simplex is like being sent down for 10 years for a parking offense. I'm appalled. There is no way of proving who gave herpes to whom and with so many of the population already unknowingly infected it is irrelevant to blame someone specific. It is a cold sore in an awkward place."

The virus which causes genital herpes can cause an outbreak or lie dormant for years, during which time it is not infectious. Many people remain unaware they are infected.

What is a Cold Herpes Sore And How Does the HSV spread?

So you would like to know what a cold herpes sore is? In this article we will try to explain exactly what it is and it's causes.

Firstly a cold herpes sore is caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) which will manifest itself in 2 types of viral infection It is marked by painful watery blisers to the skin or the mucous membrane (such as those found on the mouth or lips) as well as those found on a person's genitals. What you should remember is that this disease is contagious especially during an outbreak and can not be cured using current technology.

The infection that appears on a person's lip is the one that is commonly referred to as a cold sore and it may sometimes be confused with aphthous ulcers or those which are more commonly referred to as canker sores. These are similar in appearance but appear inside the mouth they are not caused by HSV. For those people who do not present signs of HSV ,then it lies dormant in the bodies of the nerve cells and will replicate and travel along the axons towards the skin during an outbreak. Once the outbreak has passed, the virus lies dormant within the nerve bodies and it is very difficult to treat it.

Generally HSV is transmitted by direct contact of the lips where cold herpes sores are present or just before they appear. Unfortunately if you happen to be suffering from genital cold sores then you may well increase the chance of infection to your unborn child at the time of birth. The virus will be transmitted to them as they travel down the birth canal, but this risk can be minimised if there are no symptoms or exposed blisters during the delivery. Normally a person who suffers an outbreak of cold sores for the first time after being exposed to HSV is usually having more severe symptoms than those outbreaks that they have at later dates . This is because the body will not have had a chance to produce antibodies the first time round to help attack the virus.

Most outbreaks of cold herpes sores are preceded by a sensation of burning, itching or tingling in the area prior to the blistering becoming visible.

In the US over recent years there has been a decline in infections with the HSV-1 and 2 strains of genital herpes though infections rates are still around 58% for HSV-1 and 17% for HSV-2.

Hopefully the information that has been provided above will give you a better understanding of what cold herpes sores are.

Dating For People With STDs

The common first reaction for most people when diagnosed with an std is a 'tunnel vision' view of lifelong loneliness and humiliation. There's a tendency to become attached to feelings of anger and depression. If you're young and otherwise healthy, you may think that future dreams of getting married and starting a family are lost to you.

Although this is natural, be aware that these feelings are highly exaggerated. Dating for people with std's is by no means impossible; if you have herpes, for example, it's worth knowing that between 20% to 25% of adults in North America are living with the same condition. Many are in the prime of their lives, and simply looking for a partner to whom their std will not be an issue.

Online Dating for People with STDs

This is where online dating can be your best friend. Since 2002, a handful of dating sites have sprung up online that are specifically related to STD dating. Twenty years ago, being diagnosed with an std meant that to avoid being alone you were forced to take your chances in the usual 'singles' environments. Today, you can get to know people online who have the same problem, therefore making it a non-issue. No anxiety about disclosure, no fears about spreading to a non-infected partner.

Be aware that to join an std-related dating site does not mean that you have to dwell on or be defined by your condition. You will find that most members have no interest in that, but rather want to be free to focus on their more interesting and dynamic characteristics. You also find, in std dating sites, groups of people who are more ethical than the standard, as joining is a step taken away from uncaringly infecting others.

So which is the best std dating site? As with any dating site, it's the one that is the most popular, since it will give you more choices, even in a smaller city. As a member of several std dating sites online, I've found that PositiveSinglesOnline.com is the hands down winner. It was established way back in 2002, and has developed the most solid reputation in that time.

I hope this information has been helpful!

Herpes Dating? Some Awful Dating Sites Are Not So Obvious

Do not let that shock you, for I actually did find a self-named dating site with such a header. While knowing that it was a bad site was simply elementary, I decided to take a look around anyway and guess what? I was not disappointed. This reflects the fact that there plenty of phony, half way, fly by night dating sites out there put up as just a joke, to waste your time or even worse, take your money. In addition, not all of them are so obvious, so here are some ways for you to look out for bad dating sites and religiously avoid them. One of the best ways to know whether a dating site is good or not is to check how long they have been operating, especially online.

I am not saying that you should give newer dating sites a miss completely, but if they have not been around for that long, they warrant much more research. Legit dating sites, which have been keeping people happy and healthy, would have been around for years because they would be riding on the winds of recommendations from their initial customers who, with the connectivity and power of communication of the internet, would have spread to all corners far and wide. There is nothing more powerful than off site testimonials and discussion boards to find out how good the services of a dating site is and it takes just a little time and a little research to get the information that you need. When you do look at the site, look at the aesthetics of it. The layout should be simple, they should be using a lot of clean white spaces and the spotlight should be on your profile. Shoddy design work and a low build quality means that they do not know about the mechanisms of online dating and have not put a lot of thought into the site design.

This means they will not be able to help you search for the person you love and more than likely, it is a scam website meant to gather your personal information like your email and sell it to spammers. If you cannot really judge the website by these factors, try and take a look at the profiles of some of their members. If they resemble hot model like types in skimpily dressed clothes with provocative lines then more likely than not, they are fake websites with intentions other than helping you find the date of your dreams. OR it could a website with a totally different dating niche than what you are looking for. Either way, always investigate first before filling out anything which requires you to give out your personal information especially your credit card number. While I doubt sites like Herpes dating will last so long, I hope this article at least nudges you in the right direction to surf smart and find the site that you are looking for. I would say 1 -2 out of every 5 dating websites are phony and if you know how, they are pretty easy to spot.

Remain leery of products that promise you a total cure for the condition; such promises are entirely empty. Today's products are intended for the management of the disease only.

STDs and Teenage Dating

Teenage dating is becoming more and more popular and unfortunately, the rate of Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) has also increased a lot. Most people start dating as early as nine years old and if you are to ask the older generation when they started dating they will probably also tell you they started dating in their teenage years. STD is got when a partner who is not infected has unprotected sex with someone who is infected. Examples of STD's are genital herpes, chlamydia, trichomoniais and papillomavirus. Recent research has indicated that more and more teenagers are found to be infected with at least one of this STDs or that they had been infected with one of them and got treated and non of their parents even knew about it.

Teenage dating has come to be more sexually involving and unlike in the past where such relationships did not involve sex, nowadays, teenagers have a thing of saying that if you love someone you show them that you like them by having sex with them. The problem with this is that they trust each other so much that they rarely even think of having protected sex. They not only subject themselves to having STD but also HIV Aids Virus and for the girls becoming pregnant and mothers at a very young age. For the boys, they become fathers at a very tender age. In a study conducted by the federal health officials, they found out that one out of four young women who are between the age of 14 and 19 are infected with at least one of the STD.

People who have seen things figures about teenage dating and STD are wondering who to blame. Some of them have blamed the education system saying that they are not giving their teenage children enough information on sex. However, we cannot entirely blame the education system. The parents too are to blame. Most parents shy away from talking to their teenage daughters and sons about the dangers of having sex. Sex is a subject that no one should shy away from talking about. This is because when you shy away from it, people are bound to get hurt by getting the sexually transmitted diseases which if in the first place they had enough information they wouldn't have contracted it. Parents should talk to their teenager dating children and prevent this epidemic from getting worse.

There are some people who have suggested that free condoms should be put in schools for teenage dating couple to use. However, not everyone is okay with it. The question still remains, should they put the condoms in schools and encourage their children to indulge in early sex or should they refuse and let the teenagers continue getting infected? The solution to this might not be got very soon and when we are still wondering what we should do, the teenagers are continuing to infect each other and if we are not careful it is going to be a world wide catastrophe.

Responsible Use of STD Dating Sites

Just as its name implies, STD dating sites are used by individuals who have STD to meet and greet other individuals in the same boat. In this way, you can meet new people, connect with them and possibly find your lifetime partner, all without the undue discrimination and negative judgment prevalent with dating non-infected individuals.

However, just like any online dating sites, you have to follow certain rules for your own protection as well respecting the rights of other users.

Keep in mind that although most of the users have good intentions, there will always be members who have less-than-positive aims in joining the site.

Be Safe Online and in Personal Meet-ups

You should take advantage of the double-blind system offered by the STD dating sites. Basically, you can exchange correspondence with the person via the internal secure messaging system without divulging too much personal information like e-mail addresses. This way, you remain anonymous to a certain extent while you determine if the other person is a creep.

And speaking of creeps, you have to be very realistic about finding your Princess or Prince Charming online. Although you may feel less inhibitions, this does not necessarily mean that the person is the soul mate you have been looking for. Just continue your live messages and e-mail exchanges but be cautious about expecting too much of the other person.

You should also not encourage the hopes of the other person if you are not interested in becoming more than friends. It is not your STD, per se, but it can be about not sharing the same interests, passions and views.

Now, if you still feel comfortable with the person, then you might consider a first meet-up. Keep it public, keep it safe and keep it friendly. If possible, you should bring along another friend and inform your family about it.

You will also find dating sites where group meetings are scheduled. In this case, you can join in and meet the other members in a safe setting. Plus, these group meetings definitely make for good times.

Be Sexually Responsible

In some instances, you may proceed to having a sexual relationship with the person you meet online in the STD dating service. You may already know that the other person has STD but it pays to know about his present medical status. At the very least, you will know when to have sex and when to refrain from it.

For example, if you both have genital herpes, you will want to refrain from sex while either one of you has open sores or is about to have an outbreak. You need to wait until the sores are totally healed before resuming your sexual activities. This way, you can prevent the other one from experiencing the symptoms all over again.

And even when you are willing and able to have sex, it pays to still be sexually responsible.

You have to use a latex condom at all times and use them well. You should ask your doctor about taking your medications just to minimize the risk of spreading your form of STD.

Online STD dating sites are good news for many, many people.

But to let it remain that way, every member must strive to be on their good online behavior and to be sexually responsible. Let it start with you.

STD Dating Sites Offer Chances at True Love

One of the hardest things I have been through is having a loved one that received an std disease. My best friend contracted the disease while she was involved with a guy that slept around a lot. She was the most loyal girl I've known. However, she never expected her ex-boyfriend to cheat. Not only did he cheat, but she got an STD from him. This had to be the one of the most painful experiences I have seen someone go through.

After contracting the disease, she went through a period of depression. Then she soon got over it and got enough courage to start going out on dates. She got back into the dating scene and because my friend was such a wonderful and honest person, she would let guys know beforehand that she had an std. Well, one by one I would see guys just not call her again.

I felt hurt for her. I felt anger. I knew how wonderful this girl was and I was witnessing guys turn her down because of something her ex-boyfriend did to her. I consoled her and told her the right guy would come along.

After experiencing this disease's effect, I did some research on it and found that 20% of American adults have some type of STD and herpes being #1. I did more research and saw that there are a lot of people going through the same emotional roller coaster as my best friend. Then I ran across std dating sites. I was astonished to know there was a community like this with people that were having the same problem and contracted an STD. These were people in all shapes and sizes. I told my girlfriend and she reluctantly decided to join one. Boy, am I glad she did because she is now engaged to a guy she met on the site.

However, it's not just about finding a "new loved". There's also resources available that keep up to date with STDs. There are help groups and more that I can see how so many benefit from these communities.

If you would like to join safe and private STD dating sites, I recommend a great one at http://std-dating.info. Don't let this disease stop you from living your life.

HSV Dating Sites - Can You Actually Find a Match?

After I was diagnosed with HSV-2 in November of 2008, I spent a lot of time trying to find a couple of decent HSV dating sites where I could meet women in the same situation. I took my diagnosis hard, but eventually realized that I could actually forget about it to a large extent if I was dating someone with whom I didn't have to have 'the talk' or worry about infecting.

Shockingly Inept

I was a little bit taken aback after searching a few HSV dating sites that had seemed to be all but abandoned. For example, one site I visited was called 'Positive Love'. It looked good from the outset, but then I did a search for profiles within my city.

Now, I live in Vancouver, BC, which is a decent-sized city (well, the third biggest in Canada, anyway). I made my search pretty broad by including women from the ages of 28-39. I included no other search criteria.

The result? (Gulp) Zero profiles returned. For the heck of it, I expanded this search to include all of Canada. The result (in a country of 30 million people)?

90 profiles returned!

I then signed up to another of the handful of HSV dating sites online. This one was called 'STD Friends'. This one also looked quite professional, but contained a bad omen: the std news reports featured on the first page were all dated back to 2006. I plugged ahead anyway and did the same search for my city, women aged 28-39.

The results? 0 profiles returned within Vancouver, and only 14 profiles returned across all of Canada!

Luckily, it didn't get worse after this. In fact, it got a lot better.

I stumbled upon a site called PositiveSinglesOnline.com. I discovered the 'Positive Singles' name while lurking around a forum thread that was about HSV dating sites. I went in and created a free profile and did my same 'search test'.

This time, my search for women aged 28-39 returned a whopping 322 profiles - and that was just within 100 miles of my apartment!

I'm now an active, chatty member - and highly recommend this site.

Happy searchin'!
