ELKO, Nev. — The outbreak of a highly contagious equine virus has prompted the postponement of another Elko rodeo.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports the first Gold Miners Rodeo planned for Monday night at the Elko County Fairgrounds has been postponed.
Organizer Jess Jones says a new date for the rodeo has not been set, even though he's still accepting entries.
The rodeo had been scheduled to tie in with the Mining Expo on Thursday and Friday in Elko, and was to feature teams from local mines.
The virus, Equine Herpes Virus-1, also prompted the postponement of the June 1-3 Senior Pro Rodeo in Elko.
