A Difficult Sex Question

Did you ever want to ask the question, is that a cold sore or is it herpes? The answer is they are both the same thing. But cold sores do not carry the same stigma as genital herpes. But you must know that they are both the same strains of herpes virus. Actually the virus strain that causes cold sores can also cause serious eye and brain infections.

These virus strains that cause your cold sores on your lips can also infect other areas of your face, your chest and believe it or not your fingers. Approximately fifty per cent to eight per cent of American adults have the oral herpes virus. And about twenty per cent of our adults have the genital herpes virus. Kind of alarming I would say. Sex with strangers needs to be safe sex, condoms please.

The herpes simplex virus 1 most time affects you above your waist, generally caused by your kissing. The herpes simplex virus 2 is most times below your waist and caused by sexual contact. You are probably smart enough to figure out you can get either virus through oral genital contact. You must be careful with casual sex.

You guys are not embarrassed to admit that you get cold sores but few of you, if any, will state you have genital herpes. And I have read that either of them can be in both places.

This genital virus seems to be on a rapid rise among your adolescents as they feel safe having oral sex as opposed to intercourse. Sex education in our society needs to do a lot better job. And of course it all begins at home. Remember guys both types of herpes are treatable, but to date, neither one is curable. Maybe it will be curable in time, but not now.

If you are going to participate in the new so-called sex revolution, no matter whether you are young and old, you need to understand your long term risks. As always you need to live well to be well.

I think. I read. I care. I inform. I coach.
This is a question that we all must deal with.
And soon.
